Subscription metrics

Business and Agency plans.

This is where you find out whether you have a business or a series of lucky months.

Monthly recurring revenue

MRR. What your active subscriptions bring in every month, without you doing anything.

This is the single most important number on this page. It is the income you can count on, plan around, and hire against.

Revenue tells you what happened. MRR tells you what is going to happen.

Annual recurring revenue

ARR. Your MRR projected over a year.

Useful for thinking about the shape of the business, and for the sort of conversation where someone asks how big you are.

Active subscribers

How many people are currently paying you on a recurring basis.

Watch this number over time. If MRR is going up but subscribers are flat, you are charging more. If subscribers are going up and MRR is not, something is wrong with your pricing.

Churn rate

The percentage of subscribers who cancelled.

This is the one that hurts, and it is the one that matters.

Low churn means you can grow. Every new customer adds to the total.

High churn means you are running to stand still. You sign up ten agents, you lose eight, and next month you do it all again. That is exhausting, and it does not build anything.

If your churn is climbing, stop selling for a week and go and ask the people who left why they left. It will be a better use of your time than any campaign.

One-time versus recurring

The plugin splits your paid revenue into two.

One-time revenue. Per-listing payments, featured upgrades, one-off memberships.

Recurring revenue. Subscriptions.

Recurring share. What proportion of your income renews by itself.

Average recurring value. What a recurring payment is worth.

There is also a breakdown per package, so you can see which of them actually carries the business.

What to do with this

If your recurring share is small, your income restarts from zero every month, and that is a tiring way to run a company.

The fix is usually not a new product. It is offering an existing package as a subscription, and giving people a reason to take it: a discount, more listings, a better slot.
