Refunding several payments at once

Sometimes you need to refund a group of people. A service outage, a pricing mistake, a campaign that went out wrong. The plugin can do it in one pass.

Selecting the payments

Go to Mollie Payments, then Transactions.

Filter the list to find the payments you want, then tick their checkboxes. There is a Select all on this page option if you need everything in view.

The plugin shows you how many you have selected, and gives you a Clear selection button if you change your mind.

Click Refund selected (full).

One important limit

Bulk refunds are full refunds only.

The plugin says so directly. If you need to refund part of an amount, you have to process those transactions one at a time.

That is not laziness on our part. A partial refund is a judgement about one specific customer, and applying the same judgement to forty people at once is almost always a mistake.

The reason

You can write one reason that is stored against all of them.

Something like “service interruption May 24, all affected customers refunded” will make sense to you a year from now. “Refund” will not.

Downstream actions, applied per type

Just as with a single refund, you choose what happens besides the money. The plugin applies each one only where it makes sense.

Unpublish properties, for property submissions.

Cancel memberships, for membership payments.

Cancel recurring subscriptions, so no future payments are taken.

Email each customer about their refund.

That last one matters more than it looks. Forty people are about to see money appear in their account with no explanation. An email turns a confusing refund into a company that is clearly on top of things.

Then refund

Click Refund all selected.

The plugin works through them and reports back.

Before you do this

Check your selection twice. A bulk refund is irreversible, it is fast, and it does not ask you to type a confirmation word for each one.

If in doubt, do a smaller batch first and see that it does what you expect.
