Worth understanding before you start, because it shapes what you charge your own customers.
The model
Mollie has no monthly fee and no setup fee. You pay per successful transaction, and nothing else.
That means an empty month costs you nothing at all, which is a genuinely nice property for a business that is just starting out.
The fee depends on the method
Each payment method has its own price, because they cost Mollie different amounts to run.
iDEAL is typically a fixed amount per transaction, which makes it very cheap on larger payments. Cards are usually a percentage plus a small fixed fee, which makes them relatively more expensive on big amounts. PayPal has its own rate again.
The exact numbers change, and they depend on your country and your volume, so we are not going to print them here and let them go stale. You will find the current rates on Mollie’s own pricing page, and they are clear about it.
What this means in practice
Two things worth knowing.
Offering fewer, cheaper methods saves you money. If most of your customers are Dutch, iDEAL will cover the vast majority of them at a low fixed fee. Adding twelve exotic methods you never use costs you nothing directly, but it does clutter your checkout.
Refunds are not free. If you refund a customer, the original transaction fee is generally not returned to you. That is normal across the industry, but it is worth knowing before you build a business on a generous refund policy.
What we charge
Nothing per transaction. Our plugin is a yearly license, and that is the whole cost from our side. Whether you process ten payments or ten thousand, our price does not change.
The money goes straight from your customer to Mollie to your bank account. We never touch it, and we never see it.
