Setting your currency

Short article, but get it wrong and payment methods start disappearing for no obvious reason.

Where it lives

Two places have to agree.

Houzez decides the currency your prices are in. You will find it under Theme Options, then Membership.

The plugin charges in that currency. You will find it on the Currency tab, under Mollie Payments.

What the plugin does

Open the Currency tab, and you will see that the plugin has already read your Houzez setting. It says something like “Detected from your Houzez settings: EUR”.

It also shows you exactly what Mollie will receive, so you can see that the amounts are being formatted correctly.

Confirm it, and click Save currency.

That is normally the whole job. The plugin reads Houzez, you confirm, done.

Enter your prices in the same currency

Your Houzez package prices and the plugin’s charge currency have to match.

If your currency is set to euro, enter your package prices in euro. The plugin does not convert anything, and it does not guess. It charges the amount you typed, in the currency you set.

This sounds obvious, but it is worth saying plainly, because a package priced at 249 with the currency set to pounds will charge 249 pounds, not 249 euro.

Why this affects your payment methods

Some payment methods only work with certain currencies.

iDEAL is euro only. If your currency is set to anything else, iDEAL will not appear at your checkout, and nothing will tell you why.

The same applies to several of the other domestic methods.

So if a method has vanished and you cannot work out why, check your currency before you check anything else. It is a five-second check that solves a surprising number of mysteries.

If you change your currency later

Change it in Houzez first, then confirm the new currency on the plugin’s Currency tab.

Then go and look at your Payment methods tab, because some of them may no longer be available in the new currency.

And check your package prices. Changing the currency does not convert them. A package priced at 249 stays 249, it just means something different now.
