A payment method is missing from the checkout

You switched on iDEAL, or a card, or Bancontact. It is not there.

Work down this list in order. The first check answers it most of the time, and it takes five seconds.

First: ask the plugin how many methods are live

Go to Mollie Payments, then the API keys tab, and click Test connection.

The plugin comes back with something like:

Connected! Live key works. 5 active method(s) found.

That number is how many payment methods are genuinely active in your Mollie account, right now, as Mollie sees them.

If it says 0 active methods, you have found your problem immediately. Your connection is fine and your key is fine. You simply have not switched any payment methods on at Mollie. Skip to the next section.

If the number is lower than you expected, some of what you think you enabled is not actually live at Mollie.

This one button saves more time than any other in the plugin, and almost nobody presses it.

The two-places rule

A payment method has to be switched on in two places before it will ever appear.

In your Mollie dashboard. Go to Settings, then Payment methods.

In our plugin. The Payment methods tab.

On in only one of them means it does not show up, and there is no error message anywhere. It simply is not there.

See both lists side by side

Open the System tab and click Run checks.

Find the section called Payment methods (plugin vs Mollie).

It shows you exactly two things: what you have enabled in our plugin, and what is genuinely active at Mollie. Anything in the first list that is missing from the second is your answer, spelled out.

Your currency is blocking it

This is the cause people never suspect, and it is more common than you would think.

Several payment methods only work with certain currencies. iDEAL is euro only. So are most of the other domestic European methods.

If your currency is set to anything other than euro, iDEAL will not appear at your checkout, and nothing will tell you why. The method is enabled at Mollie, enabled in our plugin, and still invisible.

How to check. Go to Mollie Payments, then the Currency tab. It shows you the currency it detected from your Houzez settings.

If that is not euro and you expected iDEAL, that is your problem.

How to fix it. Change the currency in Houzez. Go to Theme Options, then Membership. Then come back to the plugin’s Currency tab, confirm the new currency, and save.

Then check your package prices, because changing the currency does not convert them. A package priced at 249 stays 249, it just means something different now.

Mollie has not approved it yet

Some methods are available the moment you switch them on. Others have to be requested, and Mollie approves them separately.

In your Mollie dashboard, requested is not the same as active. A method sitting in review will not appear at your checkout.

The same goes for your account as a whole: until Mollie has approved your business, live payment methods do not work at all, no matter what you have switched on.

The method is there, but your customer cannot subscribe

This is a different problem wearing the same costume, and it is worth ruling out.

If your customer is buying a package that renews, only twelve of our thirty methods can carry it. The other eighteen are one-time only.

So the method may well be showing. It just cannot be used for that particular package.

How to check. On the Payment methods tab, look at the small label next to each method: Subscriptions or One-time.

iDEAL, Bancontact, card, PayPal, Apple Pay and SEPA Direct Debit can carry a subscription. Google Pay, TWINT, BLIK and Bank Transfer cannot.

If your packages renew, make sure at least one Subscriptions method is switched on.

The amount is outside the method’s limits

A few methods have a minimum or a maximum amount at Mollie.

If you are testing with a one euro package, or selling something unusually expensive, this can be the reason a method quietly disappears for that particular purchase but works for others.

You will find the current limits in Mollie’s documentation, and they change from time to time.

Still missing?

Open the System tab, click Run checks, and copy the report.

Send it to us. It leaves your API keys out, so it is safe to send, and it tells us in one go what we would otherwise spend three emails asking you about.

Still stuck?

Send us a message and a real person gets back to you, usually within one business day.
