Finding your Mollie API keys

An API key is a very long password that lets our plugin talk to Mollie as though it were you. Without one, the plugin cannot create a single payment.

Mollie gives you two of them.

The test key and the live key

Your test key lets you do everything, with no real money involved. Payments are simulated, and you get to choose whether they succeed or fail. This is how you check your setup without risking anything.

Your live key processes real payments with real money.

They look almost identical, and they start with different words so you can tell them apart. You will use both: the test key first, the live key when you are ready to sell.

Where to find them

Log in to your Mollie dashboard at mollie.com.

In the menu, go to Developers, then API keys.

Both keys are on that page.

Use the copy button next to each key rather than selecting the text with your mouse. They are long, and it is very easy to miss the first or last character. A key that is one character short simply does not work, and the error message will not tell you that is what happened.

Keep them private

Anyone with your live API key can create payments on your Mollie account. Treat it like your bank password.

Do not email it, do not paste it into a chat, and do not put it in a support ticket. If you ever need to send us something, send us the System report from the plugin instead. It deliberately leaves your keys out.

If you think a key has been exposed, you can revoke it in your Mollie dashboard and generate a new one. Do that immediately, and then paste the new one into the plugin.

What happens next

You have your keys. Now put them into the plugin.

Still stuck?

Send us a message and a real person gets back to you, usually within one business day.
