Products, VAT and expiry

The details of the create screen, for when you want more than a name and an amount.

Saving products you sell often

If you charge the same viewing fee every week, do not retype it every week.

On the create screen, under Products and items, save it once: give it a Product name and a Price, and click Save product.

From then on it appears under Quick pick, and creating a link becomes two clicks.

Building the item list by hand

Under Items, each row has a Description and a price. Add rows, remove rows.

Write descriptions your customer will recognise. “Viewing fee, 14 Kerkstraat, 3 June” is a good description. “Service” is not, and it is the sort of thing that gets queried, or worse, charged back.

VAT

Under VAT and expiry, you decide how the prices you typed should be read.

Excl. VAT. The prices you entered are before tax, and VAT is added on top.

Incl. VAT. The prices you entered already include tax.

Then pick the Rate. By default you get 21%, 9% and 0%, which covers the Netherlands.

Other. For a one-off rate that you do not want to add permanently.

Managing your VAT rates

If you regularly need a rate that is not in the list, add it once rather than choosing “Other” every time.

Go to Mollie Payments, then Payment links, then Settings, and find VAT rates. Click Add rate.

The plugin makes a sensible point here: you can always choose “Other” for a one-off rate on the create screen, without adding it to the list. Only add rates you use repeatedly.

Currency

Also on the create screen. It should match the currency you are charging in everywhere else.

Expiry

No expiry means the link works until it is paid or you cancel it.

7, 14 or 30 days puts a deadline on it.

Use a deadline. A link with no end date has no urgency, and a payment with no urgency drifts.

Thirty days suits an invoice. Seven suits a deposit on something someone is excited about today.
