Invoices (beta)

The plugin can create a real invoice through Mollie when a payment link is paid, and attach it to the confirmation email.

We are calling it beta, and we want to be straight with you about what that means.

What beta means here

This relies on a feature that Mollie is still testing. Its behaviour may still change, without much warning.

In practice that means invoice creation can occasionally fail, or change, until we follow an update on our side.

We have built it fail-safe, and that is the important part. The payment always goes through. The confirmation email always goes out. If an invoice fails, it is logged and nothing else is affected. Your customer never sees a problem, and your money is never at risk.

We would rather tell you this plainly than have you discover it.

Two things you need to know before switching it on

Your Mollie API key needs permission to create invoices. The permission is called sales-invoices.write. If your key does not have it, invoices will not be created.

Mollie assigns the invoice number, not us. It follows the invoicing settings in your Mollie dashboard. If you want your invoice numbers to look a certain way, that is where you set it up.

Switching it on

Go to Mollie Payments, then Payment links, then Settings, and find Invoices (beta).

Create invoices automatically. When a payment link is paid, a Mollie invoice is created.

Important: the invoice is only created if the customer billing details were filled in on the link. If they were left empty, invoicing is skipped, safely and quietly. No error, nothing broken.

Attach the invoice PDF to the confirmation email. When on, your customer gets the PDF with their confirmation. When off, the invoice is still created and kept, it just is not attached.

Keep logging on for invoices. Leave this on. Logging is the only place you can currently see whether an invoice was created or why it failed. It switches itself on when you enable invoicing, and you can manage it under Logs.

Filling in the billing details

On the create screen, under Invoice details (beta), you tell the plugin who the invoice is for.

Customer type: Private or Business.

For both: street and house number, postal code, city, country.

For a business, you also need a Company name, and then at least one of a VAT number or a Chamber of Commerce number. The plugin says so plainly on the screen, because an invoice without one is not much of an invoice.

Leave these empty and no invoice is created. That is a feature, not an oversight: most payment links do not need one.

What this is not

This is for payment links only. Subscriptions and package purchases are invoiced by the Houzez theme, exactly as they always have been. That is a separate system and it is not affected by anything here.
