If you sell in the Netherlands, this is the one that matters. Most Dutch customers will not think twice: they will click iDEAL, open their banking app, and be done in fifteen seconds.
Switching it on
In your Mollie dashboard. Go to Settings, then Payment methods, and switch on iDEAL. It is usually available immediately.
In our plugin. Go to Mollie Payments, then Payment methods, find iDEAL under the Netherlands group, and switch it on. Save.
That is all. There is nothing else to configure.
Why it is worth having
Almost everyone in the Netherlands uses it. Offering a Dutch audience a card instead of iDEAL is like offering them a fax number.
It is cheap. iDEAL is typically a low fixed fee per transaction, not a percentage. On a package worth a few hundred euro, that is a real difference compared to a card.
It is instant and final. The money is confirmed immediately, and there is no chargeback mechanism the way there is with cards. What is paid is paid.
It can carry subscriptions. The first iDEAL payment sets up a mandate, and renewals are then collected by direct debit.
The one thing to remember for subscriptions
If your packages renew, also switch on SEPA Direct Debit in your Mollie dashboard.
The renewals are collected by direct debit, not by iDEAL. Without SEPA Direct Debit enabled at Mollie, your renewals will not be collected.
You do not have to show SEPA Direct Debit at your checkout. It just has to exist on your account.
About the move to Wero
You may have read that iDEAL will gradually be replaced by Wero over the coming years.
This is true, and there is nothing for you to do.
Mollie is managing the transition on their side. iDEAL keeps working exactly as it does today in the meantime, and when things change, they change at Mollie, not in your settings. We will keep the plugin current as it develops.
If iDEAL does not appear
The usual suspects, in order.
It is not switched on at Mollie. Check your dashboard.
It is not switched on in the plugin. Check the Payment methods tab.
Your currency is not euro. iDEAL is euro only. If your Houzez currency is set to something else, iDEAL will not appear. See the article on setting your currency.
Your Mollie account is not approved yet. Live methods do not work until Mollie has approved you.
