Setting up membership packages

A package is what your agent actually buys. This article walks through every field, in the order you meet them.

Where to go

In your WordPress admin, go to Real Estate, then Packages.

Click Add New to create one, or open an existing package to edit it.

Packages live under Real Estate, not under Houzez. This trips people up.

Give it a name

The title of the package is what your customer sees. Keep it plain: Starter, Professional, Agency. Clever names make people hesitate, and hesitation costs you sales.

Billing Period and Billing Frequency

These two work together, and together they decide how long the package lasts.

Billing Period is the unit: Day, Week, Month or Year.

Billing Frequency is the number.

So 1 and Month is monthly. 1 and Year is yearly. 3 and Month is quarterly.

Most agencies offer monthly and yearly, with the yearly one slightly cheaper per month. That is a well-worn pattern and it works.

Never Expire

A checkbox, described as “Package never expires (Lifetime)”.

Tick it and the package never runs out. The customer pays once and keeps access forever.

Important: a lifetime package cannot be a subscription. There is nothing to renew, because it never ends. If you set a package to both lifetime and recurring, our plugin will notice and tell you plainly: it will always be charged once, whatever the billing period says.

That is not a bug. It is the only sensible reading of “lifetime”.

How many listings are included?

The number of properties the agent may list with this package.

There is also an Unlimited listings checkbox, if you would rather not count.

How many Featured listings are included?

How many of those listings the agent may promote to featured, at no extra cost.

A common pattern: a Starter package with ten listings and zero featured, and a Professional package with fifty listings and five featured. The featured slots are the upsell.

Package Price

What the agent pays. Enter it in the currency you set under Theme Options, Membership.

The plugin does not convert anything. If your currency is euro, this number is euro.

Package Stripe id, and Stripe Tax ID

Leave both of these empty.

They are Stripe’s fields, and Mollie does not use them.

Our plugin says so directly in the package editor, and it is worth understanding why. Stripe makes you create a plan in advance and paste its ID here. Mollie creates the subscription per customer, on the spot, with no pre-defined plan to look up. And it does not handle VAT registration, so there is no tax ID to give it.

Empty is correct. Nothing is missing.

Is It Visible?

Whether the package appears on your pricing page.

Set it to no and the package still exists but nobody can see or buy it. This is useful for a package you are preparing, or a special deal you only want to link to directly.

It is also, occasionally, the reason a package “has disappeared”.

Taxes

A tax percentage for this package, as digits.

Mollie charges the full amount including tax and pays it into your account. What you do with the VAT afterwards is between you and your accountant, as it always was.

How many images are included per listing?

Self-explanatory, with an Unlimited images checkbox alongside it.

Worth setting sensibly. Ten images is generous for most listings, and it stops one agent uploading four hundred photographs of the same kitchen.

Is Popular/Featured?

Marks this package as the recommended one on your pricing page, usually with a badge or a highlight.

Pick one. Recommending three packages recommends nothing.

Custom Link

Leave empty unless you want the package button to point somewhere unusual, such as a contact form for an enterprise plan you negotiate by hand.

The Mollie Settings block

Scroll down, and you will find a block called Mollie Settings. This is the one our plugin adds, and it is where you decide whether this package renews.

It has its own article, and it is the most important setting on the page.
